Angel

the words on the page

are the scars on her wrists

and the broken dreams

she once dreamed

the fighting starts

when she walks through the door

and she runs to her room

blasting loud music

to drown out the screaming

her room is her sanctuary

the only place she can escape the world

and express herself

without fearing judgement

music and art are her comforts

the only things she’s ever had

that make her feel safe

she thinks about dying

thinking no one would care

she’s and invisible girl

made out of air

her sister’s the perfect one

even when she fails

she can do no wrong

even when they’re fighting

she always gets her way

but she still says she wants to die

her room is her sanctuary

the only place she can escape the world

and express herself

without fearing judgement

it sucks being the freaky one

who doesn’t quite fit in

no matter what she says or does

she can never win

she’s Special Ed

and she gets called out

for being the different one

her room is her sanctuary

the only place she can escape the world

and express herself

without fearing judgement

her writing is her safety

though her tears stain the pages

like raindrops

or splattered paint

on her bedroom walls

poetry is her outlet

the rhythm and lines

ease her mind

and reassure her it will be alright

breathe in

breathe out

and live for the beauty

she found in creativity

that saved her life

in the silence of the night
