This is our home

somewhere considered safe

until someone came

and took that away

No one was expecting

something so terrible

to take place here

not in America

we are a super power

and the land of the free

who could hate

a country who encourages you

to be who you wanna be?

Every culture,

every family,

every religion,

race or gender

is accepted here

until a shadow of doubt was cast

Who are they

to create all this hate

all this fear

and take away the innocence of youth?

We go off to war

to avenge needless deaths

only to create

more bloodshed

At some point it must stop

all this death and destruction

what’s the point of shedding more blood

when it only invokes retaliation

This was supposed to be our sanctuary

but no more

instead of seeing loved ones

we light a candle in their memory

whether they fell from the towers

fought back on the planes

or were the first responders

who never made it home

This is our home

it’s supposed to be a safe space

until someone came

and took that away

Someone’s mother,

father,

sister or brother,

friend,

or distant relative

will never get to see

who we were meant to be

We are the survivors

we have to keep fighting

and no matter what happens

WE WILL NEVER FORGET!
